Local Authorities and private Companies provided a precious financial support which was essential for the success of the Conference.

The conference consisted of sessions devoted to different topics, namely:

  • BIO-FUNCTIONALIZATION AND SENSING
  • CARBON BASED NANOSTRUCTURES AND GRAPHENE
  • CATALYSIS AND SURFACE REACTIONS
  • FILMS FOR PHOTOVOLTAIC APPLICATIONS
  • FILM GROWTH
  • FUEL CELLS AND HYDROGEN STORAGE
  • INSULATOR AND OXIDE SURFACES AND FILMS
  • MAGNETISM AND SPINTRONICS
  • MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND TRIBOLOGY
  • METALLIC FILMS
  • NOVEL AND EMERGING METHODS
  • OPTICAL PROPERTIES (SPECIAL SESSION DEDICATED TO RODOLFO DEL SOLE)
  • PHOTONICS, PLASMONICS AND MAGNETOPLASMONICS
  • POLYMER FILMS
  • SELFASSEMBLED FILMS
  • SEMICONDUCTORS AND HYBRID FILMS
  • SUPERCONDUCTING FILMS, INTERFACES AND SURFACES

The experimental and theoretical contributions from different areas of surface science and solid film science and technology provide an essay of the present status of research in the topics covered by ICSFS16.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of ICSFS 16 we want to thank the e-Journal of Surface Science and Nanotechnology for hosting our Proceedings and its Editors, Prof. Akagi and Prof. Watanabe, as well as its Editorial Office for their precious assistance during the overall processing of the submitted manuscripts.

Last but not least, we acknowledge our referees for their effort to provide us with motivated and accurate reviews, which enabled to guarantee for the scientific quality of the accepted papers.
