Preface for Procedings of The 15th Chitose International Forum on Photonics Science & Technology (CIF '15)

The Chitose Institute of Science & Technology (CIST) is hosting and organizing international conferences since 1999, for example the 4th International Conference on Organic Nonlinear Optics (ICONO '4) in 1998, the International Symposium on Optical Memory (ISOM2000) in 2000, and the Korea Japan Joint Forum in 2008. The first Chitose International Forum on Photonics Science and Technology (CIF '1) was held in 1999. Each forum in this annual series focuses on a specific topic related to photonics. The topic of CIF '15, held on October 2—3, 2014 was “Nanotechnology—From Synthesis to Devices”. There were three oral sessions: Nanomaterial Synthesis, Nano-Characterization, and Nano-Devices.

The guest editors for this collection of proceedings are Hiromi Kimura-Suda, Shoichi Kobayashi, Kento Okoshi, and Olaf Karthaus.

In total, there were 12 invited presentations and 41 poster presentations. In addition, Dr. Akira Fujishima, President of Tokyo University of Science and Professor Emeritus of Tokyo University, gave a special lecture in Japanese for the public about photocatalysis and the future of photonics science.

On behalf of the CIF '15 Organizing Committee, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the distinguished guest speakers for their contributions and to all poster contributors for their participation.

The support by the Nanotechnology Platform of MEXT, and the financial support by Photonics World Consortium (PWC, https://www.pwc-chitose.jp/) are highly appreciated. Furthermore, we thank All Nippon Airways for partial travel support of invited speakers.
