About ALC Winter Meeting

This symposium, ALC-W, is organized as the winter edition of the International Symposium on Atomic Level Characterizations for New Materials and Devices (ALC), organized by the Microbeam Analysis (MBA) Technical Committee of the Surface and Vacuum Society of Japan. (ALC), organized by the Microbeam Analysis (MBA) Technical Subcommittee of the Surface and Vacuum Society of Japan. Following the format of the Symposium on Surface Science (3S) held in Europe and the Symposium on Surface and Nano Science (SSNS) held in Japan as a special meeting of the Thin Film and Surface Physics Division of the Japan Society of Japan Society of Applied Physics, the participants gathered at a ski resort to deepen exchanges in a camp-style atmosphere. Both 3S and SSNS were suspended for three years due to COVID-19. However, with the resumption of 3S at the end of COVID-19, the symposium was re-launched in Japan as ALC-W under a new name.

This symposium is limited to 40 participants and is expected to lead to new developments in surface and nano-science through close discussions on all aspects of surface and nano-science in a camp style. The high level of lectures and enthusiastic discussions were held throughout the day and night, and were well received by the participants. Half of the participants were from overseas, and it was a good opportunity to get acquainted with prominent foreign researchers.
